The cost of Transition
Those out there that assume us who transition get everything on the NHS well take a read.
I may have got help and support to transition, I say may because nothing is set in stone when it comes to the process with the NHS, also it would be an additional 6 years to get even seen for top surgery.
The financial cost in the UK approx 12k.including :
. Psychologist ass, one if your lucky, two if your not or non binary. I had to pay for two.
. Surgeon approx £5k
. Hospital stay approx £4.5 k
. Anesthetist approx 1.5k
. Hormones , including appointment and prescription 2.5k
. Binders £45. + each
.Travel to and from appointments approx £600
This is the financial cost, so if you are lucky you are either rich or able to get a loan.
That is the financial loss. What about relationship loss. Many of us lose partners, friendships, family etc because we decide to transition. This loss is huge and determental to us .
Yes I have gone through financial and relationship loss. Would I stop this process? No. Yes it would be nice if it was easy , but when has anything about being queer been easy. There are those who say it is my choice and I should suck it up. If this was a choice does anyone think it's something one would choose. It's not as simple as choosing a chocolate bar. This is about being born in the wrong gender , the wrong body.
If you think it's a choice you don't understand. It's trying to live as ones authentic self that most of you are able to do daily.
One thing you could do is challenge anyone who says it's a choice. Become a better Aly. 🏳️⚧️🫂🐦🔥
